That is my experience also.
But it is not a problem, for the real audience is those who value
knowledge more highly. It just superficially seems a problem,
because those who place little value on knowledge are more vocal in
denigrating knowledge, than those who place a higher value are in
applauding knowledge.
The latter are too busy using the knowledge to their advantage and
sometime later thanking the communicator of the knowledge - God bless
them.

The joke is not on you Norman, for you are full of good ideas.
It the main part of the crowd who are full of bad ideas or have no ideas
- the main part of accept or reject mob.
