Don,

have a look at <A

There are removal destructions here depending on
the operating system you are using. Can't remember which version of
magistr you caught, but have a look under w32.mag.....

If I can be of further help -
shout.

Good luck

  Subject: [RT] Virus

  Kent,
Your advice is being heeded here.

I have deleated all email addresses from that
machine (the virus deleted all messages already), taken it offline and have
moved over to a "clean" machine until the problem is resolved there.  It
would appear a complete restore will be required after the HD is
repartitioned, but speaking out off school since that kind of thing is not my
  specialty.

All attempts to rid the computer of the virus
(w32/Magistr@xx) have failed using two different anti-virus software
packages The antivirus software says it gone, but it is not.

Here is a description of this worm/trojan
  whatever you call it.

  <A

If someone could send me (direct) the information
on "the Bat" I would appreciate it.  I am getting rid of all OE email
products here, period, should have done it earlier.

Also recommendations on an antivirus software
that does not slow a machine to a snails pace would be appreciated (send
direct).  The Norton's on my other machines have degraded their
  performance measurably.

This one is very destructive.  The initial
email where I recieved it, was from a friend I talk to almost every day
and it gave the appearance I was opening a dot-com link (groups.com) that
he wanted me to look at.  I am normally very, very careful about what I
open, not careful enough on that machine.

  Again my apology.
