You might try the American Institute for Economic Research (AIER). They
chart the relative values of several currencies versus a reference value.
Data goes back to 1913. They also chart the $ against gold back to 1780. I
am not sure if their data is available on their web site, but, you can try:
www.aier.org
If you cannot find it there, I have some of AIER's publications and can
probably provide the information you are seeking.
