TO: Eglin AFB Computer Users 1. The BIAO has implemented
this method of notifying users when an identified virus is in the wild
without Anti-virus definitions, or whenever a large volume of any specific
virus has been identified on the Eglin Network Control Center's (NCC) e-mail
servers. When this occurs, you are at an increased risk of receiving
this virus at work or at home and should increase your
vigilance. 2. The Eglin NCC is monitoring/filtering
for a new worm virus called W 3 2 . A p o s t . w o r m (spaces
intentionally added). Virus infected e-mail will have the following
characteristics: - Subject of email: As per your request! - Name of
attachment: readme.exe - Size of attachment: 24,576 bytes - Target of
infection: All Microsoft Windows based systems 3. Your best protection
is to always ensure your Anti-virus software is running and has the most
recent virus definition files loaded and have real-time protection
enabled. If you receive email containing a suspected virus, do NOT
open it and do NOT shut down your computer; just disconnect your computer
from the LAN and contact your organization's Computer Systems Security
Officer (CSSO) immediately. 4. Symantec ( <A
href="http://www.symantec.com";>www.symantec.com ) has just added information
on this worm to it's website. W32.Apost.worm is an executable that
arrives via email. When executed, the worm will email itself to everyone in
the Microsoft Outlook Address book twice. The following Symantec link
