Good question! The software I am using has a peculiar way of defining
channel width (pixels, maybe?), so the channel width number is approximate.
For daily DJIA, I am using:
60 period centered moving average with aprox. +&- 5.3 %
10 period centered moving average with aprox. +&- 2.12 %
You will have noticed that recent volatility of the DJIA has not been
contained by my wide channels. If the channel is widened to accommodate this
price action, the upside potential of the index is increased.
This is art, not science. Widening the channel may be appropriate. Because
the price excursions did not have much effect on the contour of the channel,
they appear to represent periods of significant accumulation which may
increase upside volatility of the market - a breakout scenario.

What are the settings on the two channels? Time frame and what type of
smoothing?
Thanks.
