FibonacciTrader has joined Ensign in being the only two trading software pkg
that can feed off of the D8000 and D8080 ethernet ports. Carlos, the FT
programmer modified the FT feeder for TCP/IP in just a few hours and says
the upgrade 3.12 will be available this weekend at their website
http://www.fibonaccitrader.com . Free 30 day trials available. I've beta
tested the new port the last few days and found that like other direct DTN
pkg it requires the "P" or Process codes to begin storing data so there is
that 24 to 48 hour period of waiting for DTN to send the codes. Prior to
the upgrade, FT had a 115k baud rate limitation on the DTN serial port and
this now brings it up to speed and eliminates the data bottleneck. Congrats
to a responsive tech support.
To use a NIC card with the DTN receiver requires a crossover RJ45 cable
which can be purchased from various sources or you can modify a straight
through cable with this wiring:
1 to 3
2 to 6
3 to 1
4 to 4
5 to 5
6 to 2
7 to 7
8 to 8
I first tried to feed it through a LinkSystem 4 port hub but wasn't
successful in keeping the D8080 bound to the hub. The crossover cable
worked fine directly between the computer's NIC and the D8080 with these
settings:
Computer NIC IP = 10.100.116.140
Subnet Mask = 250.250.250.0
The D8080 needs to be reset so the unit will automatically sample for a NIC
presence during power up. If it finds one then the ethernet port is
enabled. If it doesn't, then the RS232 port is enabled, thus the computer
NIC has to be connected to the receiver during the power up or reset. I am
told the D8000 doesn't need to be reset, but can't verify that since I have
the D8080. During reset the D8080 does a memory test. Sometimes mine
failed the memory test and thus did not complete initialization but another
reset would make it pass.
Now if only Omega would provide the Global Server upgrade in as timely a
manner as Ensign and FibonacciTrader.

ps: Chameleon, dtn's, software will also work on the ethernet port but
Version 3.1 needs to be installed. DTN will send the CD upon request to dtn
subscribers
