Lenny, thanks for the URL. Patterns is one of a couple of programs which
do statistically based pattern matching where each bar is categorized in
some manner as to the relationship of the O/H/L/C to each other and to
the daily range. One or more sequentially occurring bars is then
categorized and applied to an existing partial pattern set to project
the statistical probabilities of price moves over the next day or days.
My research on Pattern Smasher suggested that it uses fuzzy logic and
heuristics to recognize specific patterns regardless of the exact
sequence in which the bars may occur e.g. an ascending triangle could be
recognized regardless of the exact sequence or number of bars in which
the pattern occurs. As a former software developer with considerable
experience, I can attest to the difficulty and complexity of programming
good pattern recognition.
