Generally I agree with all said above. But I still want to add a
penny... Of course we are all to be more interested in more robust
trading strategies. Thinking this way I personally value higher
those trading systems which are able to produce "similar" to
historical (i.e. profits > 0.5 * hist profits, drawdowns < 2*histDD,
something more though numbers on portfolio basis, and probably
a bit loose ones on individual markets)
over wide range of markets in the diversified portfolio.

That's why often I can't get any clue from historical performance
numbers of vendor's systems. Let's take for example Chuck LeBeau's
TraderClub. I feel it's probably the best informational and
educational resource on system design on the Net.
(My congrats and thanx to Chuck and David Elden!)
But I personally have not purchased any of the offered systems
because it looks like they have too many degrees of freedom (DOF)
for me to consider their historical performance numbers to be
statistically valid IMVHO.
Well, it may be a huge theoretical obstacle to choose any system ever
to trade with real money :-)) but...

That's why I like real time/real money figures ! Sometimes they
cannot add much to statistics but elaborate a little bit on
curve-fits and execution costs.
So I suppose it's very interesting to see information like Steve
McGuire's TrendReflection or Mark Johnson's Aberration accounts
trading results posted. (Of course not every couple of days).
As to discretionary trading P/L's -- it's very difficult task
to interpret ...

TrendReflection, or any others except respectful list-watcher
and explorer
