How about running one big monitor (?) You may also consider buying another
computer (inexpensive one) as a backup - you already have the monitor.

Check this site www.massmultiples.com
- It is suppose to be many monitors in one (?) have not checked the site out
as if yet.

Doug, you should not require any 3rd party program at all. That is, assuming
you have relatively newer PCI and/or AGP video cards and the proper drivers.
You should be able to right click on your desktop, select
Properties>Settings
and check 'Extend my Windows desktop onto this monitor'. One site of
interest
is http://www.realtimesoft.com/multimon/. If you don't 'see' the second
monitor on your Display Properties, it could mean that your card(s) are not
multimonitor capable. It could also mean that the drivers are either not
installed properly or you are having resource conflicts. One place to check
about those is to right click on 'My Computer' and choose Properties and
then
look in Device Manger to see if you might have some nasty yellow
exclamations
showing next to your video cards. If that is the case, try reinstalling the
drivers. If that doesn't do it, try moving your cards around to different
slots. Been there, done that, and moving them around DOES make a difference.

FYI, although you did not ask about 2K or NT4, on the outside chance that
you
or anyone else could benefit, here are some of the things I have experienced
with those two OS's:

Multimonitor also works well in Windows2000, actually quite similar to W98.
Matrox cards also work in NT4 as long as all cards can use the same driver.
I
for instance use Matrox G200's: Two PCI's and one AGP card. All three work
beautifully in W98, W2K and NT4. However, in NT4 dialog boxes are centered
and programs are maximized on the entire desktop. Therefore, if you have 2
monitors, dialogs are broken up between the right of mon1 and left of
mon2...very annoying and takes some major getting used to. Also, the taskbar
stretches across all three which is not the case in 98 or 2K.

ATI Cards also worked fine in W98 multimonitor although in Win2K Expert98's
do not paint correctly as secondary monitors. ATI has the lousy attitude of
'tough, we are not supporting mulitple monitors in Windows 2000'.

Mike

I have 2 Monitors setup under WIN98. Someone posted a site for a program
that will allow the Desktop to be spread accross both monitors.

Would appreciate a reply as would like to a desktop spread across 2 17"
monitors.

 Thanks.
