Are you running this software now? Does the back-up take seconds or minutes?
I am running cable modem and at this time it is running good I can live with
a short outage, but a few months ago the connection was bad when they where
doing upgrades, to get a ASDL line it would cost $40 cad a month, I am
considering getting it as a back up as and alternative for trading and
others.

Bob, as the following diagram shows, there is no secondary PC involved,
but rather this is a software solution that opens another connection.
