Dear Chris,
This is not true. The 1999 individual tax returns are due today (4/17/00)
whether or not you owe tax. You can extend the filing deadline (but not the
deadline to pay tax that you owe) to August 15, 2000 by properly filing IRS
Form 4868 by today and send in what you may owe.
You may be subject to "late filing penalties" if you don't file the tax
return (or the extension) by the due date (today), even if you don't owe any
tax with the filing of the tax return.
Your state may have different rules and due dates. Don't forget about that
return.
