I bought my first couple of trading books (including Edwards and McGee) back
in the mid-80s from Ed Dobson. As I recall, he was a Paine-Webber broker at
the time, and selling books on the side. Whenever I had a question about
some book, he would answer the 800 number at his P-W desk and generously
donate his perspective about the text I was inquiring about. I wouldn't be
surprised if he had read each and every one of the books he was selling...
quite often, he would propose another book he was familiar with, after
asking me a few questions about the kind of trading I was interested in.
Despite the obvious opportunity, he never once suggested that I open an
account with him.

Somehow, during one of our discussions, I had inquired about a book that had
a "side offer" of his book, "The Trading Rule that can Make You Rich!",
which I got as sort of a consolation prize. He was one of the early traders
to recognize the significance of a 50% retracement, and that is what he
documented it in this book. I always had the impression it was more of a
give-away than a money-maker for him... I never had any truck with his
effort to sell the information. How could that be any different than any of
the other books I was interested in?

I've bought a lot of books from Trader's Press, and still consider them to
be the premier source of trading literature. They have obvious competition
with Amazon, B-N, etc. If you pay a little more with them, at least you are
dealing with a reputable, well established source of a very wide variety of
books about trading.

No connection, nothing more than a satisfied customer...
