[RT] Lame data vendor...

Following on from Phil Lane's recent success at complaining visibly about
particular service he had recieved on this forum I thought I would tell you
about a recent experience of mine.

I recently purchased a quantity of Gentick data from Genesis Data Systems
for a fairly large chunk of cash.
I discovered several weeks ago that there appears to be MISSING DATA on the
CD they sent me for CBOT contracts from the earlier 1980s. The details of
what I have found so far are at the end of this email. The same problem
appears on a replacement CD I received recently. Last week I called GFDS
again on this subject and it appears that even their version of the data
contains these "errors".

So fine, it should be easy enough to fix or if not I should get some kind of
discount for accepting "less than perfect" goods, right? After all, their
website adverts don't say that not only is the data NOT life-of-contract
(although that's what their salesperson Quinn told me) but that you should
expect some data to be randomly missing all the way up to 1986.

When I called Quinn and Technical support to get some kind of response I was
not called back or contacted in any way. Hopefully GFDS will now take the
opportunity to call or email me to resolve this issue. All I want is one of:
a) a discount for accepting faulty goods, b) the problem fixed or c) a full
refund if neither of the above can be agreed/executed.

Thanks,

Robert

P.S. If any other Gentick users have a similar case please let me know. If
your data is all OK please also let me know!

P.P.S Living in the UK I'm not sure of what I can do to get Genesis to
listen to my complaint. Any advice from list members appreciated.

Details of Missing Data:

In the Data Manager I get this (in dd/mm/yy format):

		Start Date End Date
C__80U 08/02/80 29/08/80
C__80Z	08/02/80 29/08/80 (X)
C__81U	xxxx 31/08/81
C__81Z	xxxx 31/08/81 (X)
C__82U	xxxx 31/08/82
C__82Z	xxxx 31/08/82 (X)
etc until
C__86U	xxxx 29/08/86
C__86Z	xxxx 29/08/86 (X)

xxxx = don't care
X = DO care!

This problem also appears on AT LEAST:

Soybean Meal (80U,80V,80Z and 81F all "end" on 30/09/80)
Soybeans (80U,80X,81F all end on 30/9/80)
Treasury Bonds (80u,80z both end on 30/9/80)
Wheat (80U, 80Z both end on 30/9/80)
Bean Oil (80U,80V,80Z,81F all end 30/9/80)

OTHER MISSING DATA:
Bean Oil (82H ends on 29/1/82 which is too early)
Corn (82H ends on 29/1/82)
and probably the rest of CBOT data too...
