<DIV><FONT color=#000000 face=Verdana size=2>I received several responses about
this from my earlier post so I thought I would elaborate just a little. I
would like to preface this with a couple of comments. First, it is my firm
belief that a trader should not even be trading the stock index futures until
they have been able to perform consistently in other markets like US/SF.
Secondly, I don't think these ideas are right because they are mine (they're
not) but because they work - and work consistently. </FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT color=#000000 face=Verdana size=2></FONT> </DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Verdana size=2>As I mentioned earlier, I think trading with
1-lots is a losing proposition as it puts the math of trading against you.
But rather than preach about this, I thought I would pose a few questions to
think about:</FONT></DIV>
<UL>
<LI><FONT face=Verdana size=2>How many options do you have with just 1
contract? With 3?</FONT></LI>
<LI><FONT face=Verdana size=2>What's the largest move you ever caught with 1
contract?</FONT></LI>
<LI><FONT face=Verdana size=2>Are your losers basically the same size as
your winners?</FONT></LI>
<LI><FONT face=Verdana size=2></FONT><FONT color=#000000 face=Verdana
size=2>Where do you exit with only 1? (and when you do hopefully it's not on
a retracement)</FONT></LI>
<LI><FONT color=#000000 face=Verdana size=2></FONT><FONT face=Verdana
size=2>What happens after your first objective is hit? (and hopefully
you have objectives on each trade based upon the price action and not a
fixed profit target)</FONT></LI>
<LI><FONT face=Verdana size=2>In most cases, if not all, won't that decision
to exit with just 1 be wrong?</FONT></LI>
<LI><FONT face=Verdana size=2>What happens if the market continues in the
direction of the trade? Where/how do you get back in?</FONT></LI>
<LI><FONT face=Verdana size=2>How many times have you said to yourself -
"if I would have just held on a little longer?"</FONT></LI>
<LI><FONT face=Verdana size=2>How many times have you got your 2 points (or
whatever) and then watched the market go another 12+ (or 30+ like today and
several other days this year) and you missed that move?</FONT></LI>
<LI><FONT face=Verdana size=2>How many times did you have your two points
(or whatever) only to give it back and maybe even lose on that
trade?</FONT></LI>
<LI><FONT face=Verdana size=2>How do you stay with the large moves the
market makes on a daily basis? (trailing stops is incorrect)</FONT></LI>
<LI><FONT face=Verdana size=2></FONT><FONT face=Verdana size=2>Is the
initial risk more on 3 ES or 1 SP?</FONT></LI>
<LI><FONT face=Verdana size=2>What if you took profits on 2 out of the 3
contracts and left the last one in? Or 1-1-1?</FONT></LI>
<LI><FONT face=Verdana size=2></FONT><FONT color=#000000 size=2><FONT
face=Verdana>If you took 2 points on the first 2 contracts, isn't the last 1
left now basically "free" and the trade guaranteed to make a
profit?</FONT></FONT></LI>
<LI><FONT color=#000000 size=2><FONT face=Verdana></FONT></FONT><FONT
face=Verdana size=2>How do you ever learn how to manage a position with just
1 contract?</FONT></LI>
<LI><FONT face=Verdana size=2>How do you adjust your game plan to the
conditions with only 1 contract?</FONT></LI></UL>
<DIV>
<DIV><FONT color=#000000 face=Verdana size=2>Today was a FANTASTIC day to
trade. You could have "had a good month today" as my mentor
says. How did you do trading 1-lots when the ND had a 263 point range and
the S&P had a 62 point range? (and may we have many more days just like
today - up or down)</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT color=#000000 face=Verdana size=2></FONT> </DIV></DIV>
<DIV><FONT color=#000000 size=2><FONT face=Verdana></FONT></FONT><FONT
color=#000000 face=Verdana size=2>I know some of you are thinking that
commissions are too high with 3 ES. My reply is don't let pennies get in
the way of dollars. There are several brokers offering rates on the Mini
contracts between $9-$13 RT all in depending upon volume, experience, etc.
If you are paying more then talk to your current broker and/or shop
around. I should add that I have a different philosophy regarding Mini
contracts versus pit traded contracts as far as commissions are concerned.
I expect to pay less for Minis assuming a Globex API, but a good broker
providing good service on the pit traded contracts is worth much higher rates -
and deserves higher rates.</FONT></DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV><FONT color=#000000 face=Verdana size=2>I am sure I have left out a couple
of points, but hopefully this makes some sense. Today was exhilarating and
I love these kind of days, but they can wear you out a little.</FONT></DIV>
<DIV><FONT color=#000000 face=Verdana size=2></FONT> </DIV>
<DIV><FONT face=Verdana size=2>Hope this helps,</FONT></DIV>
