Status:
I've seen this dozens of times...someone goes to all the time and
effort building a good discussion list and the greedy "flatworms"
get in and ruin it.
There is EXACTLY one way, and ONLY one way, to keep a quality
list going for any length of time...absolutely NO ADS except sig
files. Advertising isn't necessary on a discussion list anyway if
you take the time to market properly using sig files.
If you take part in the discussion, offer help, tips, advice,
etc., you'll earn the trust and respect of members, and they'll
be interested in other projects you're working on.
If you're a greedy "flatworm" who cannot be trusted to follow the
rules we all agreed to when we joined the list, and show a total
lack of respect for all members by blatantly pushing your
products, only a fool is going to take you up on your offers.
"One day a month sounds like a good idea. I second your motion."
This idea would put an end to the list. Anyone advertising now
has proven they believe the rules apply to everyone but them. Or
more likely they simply don't care about the rules. If a
"flatworm" is advertising whenever they want now, why would they
pay any attention to a new rule that says "one day a month is
OK".
Nope...one "flatworm" today, hundreds tomorrow. And the RT's will
go the way of so many others filling the discussion list
boneyards.
