Listers,
I have been prompted for an update of my experience with PCQuote & TS2K.
Here you go!
First, in a couple of posts there seems to be a misunderstanding that I am
using PCQuote with TS4. Just for clarity sake, this is not so. I am using
PCQuote with TS2K. There is no PCQuote data feed for TS4 I don't believe.
As for PCQuote merging with some other company, of this I know nothing.
As well, I've been asked if PCQuote's Hyperfeed product is the correct
choice of download from their website. Hyperfeed is the satellite product
for TS2k I believe. I was told to download the PCQuote Online product.
As for the data feed and software, things are going relatively smoothly at
this point. Not perfect, but workable.
Michael Watkins is still grooving without incident I believe, but after one
flawless day, I landed back on earth with a strange bug.
It is this:
I have 14 workspaces. Each workspace is stretched out over 4 displays. Each
workspace includes one quote window, and 6-10 chart windows in each. I like
a lot of views of my S&P and related data.
As I Control-Page Up or PageDown, or click on the tabs at the bottom of the
screen, in essence flipping through my workspaces, I noticed that several
windows in each workspace are "auto-scrolled" all the way to the left, i.e.,
they are providing me a view of the oldest data in that particular window.
To view the most recent data, I must scroll them back to the right. Somewhat
annoying and time consuming. They do this by themselves, ongoing.
I called a particular senior tech at Omega, and left a message, but have
received no response as yet.
Anyone seen this before?
Other than that, TS2K is behaving. It barely uses 20% of the processor at
any particular time.
I did corrupt some of the windows in each workspace by downloading
HistoryBank data with TS2K open, even though the data was for some stocks I
want to track as background for my S&P trading, that are not even
represented in my workspaces in any windows yet. The overnight Globex
symbols were the primary ones affected, though some others also needed to be
recreated. This was my fault.
Other than some windows not refreshing until I click in that window, I have
little else to report.
I did note a bad tick that gave me a high of 1482.40 today. As most of you
probably know, the high was 1478.20 on the opening 5 minute bar. This is a
PCQuote issue I believe, and we'll have to watch to see how much bad data
they transmit.
I did also notice that my total volume numbers for the Nasdaq were off,
markedly, some 500,000,000 from CNBC's AND Quote.com's numbers. I have not
had time to ask them about this.
As for speed, the feed is tick for tick as fast as Quote.com in my
experience.
Please note that unlike Michael, I did not wipe the drive clean and reload
NT on 2 drives (I have one) and rebuild everything after leaving Quote.com &
DynaStore. TS2K had crashed several times during that trial period and may
have sustained some corruption, I'm not sure. Some of the anomalies I am
experiencing, though minor at this point, may grow more persistent or
catastrophic over time. Well see.
I think Michael's very clean behavior is a sign that under "perfect"
conditions, the program can behave close to the way it should. I hope he
never has any problems, but my instinct tells me that over time, his TS2K
too MAY begin to show some aging, strain, or wear in some odd behavioral
ways.
If TS were a more robust app, well, who knows! But as we all know, it is
not!
I'll let you know more about how TS2K behaves over time.
