Listers,
What Michael Watkins said in an earlier message "A Positive Resolution", I
concur 1000%!
PCQuote together with TS2K is a winning combination! Data tick for tick as
fast as Quote.com, flawless TS2K behavior so far, and, of course, only time
will really tell. I'm happy, but I'm a realist!
If you remember, I am the one who put out a plea for alternatives a few days
ago, and received much support for which I am most appreciative.
Michael was one respondent.
After several email and a couple of phone conversations, Michael mentioned
that he would be running PCQuote starting today and let me know the results.
I barely heard him, I was so buried in my own problems with TS2K..
Well, today, Michael tells me he is running smooth as silk and so after
having checked out a half dozen alternatives of varying prices and kinds, I
tried PCQuote as well. His was a recommendation based on having the same
problems I was having. Not occasionally, but ongoing, constantly.
As well, I figured, if it works, it allows me to stay where I am
software-wise, get back to trading, and with no further $ spent, time
wasted, and learn curves to climb.
As it turns out, PCQuote (ONLINE) is easy to set up and doesn't require (for
most exchanges like CME, CBOT, OPRA and the NYSE, NASDAQ or AMEX) any paper
shuffling.
So I was up and running in about an hour.
I don't want to sound like an advert, but wow, TS2K never felt so good! It
flies on the Dual P3 I mentioned earlier. No twitching, no crashing, just
THE MARKETS! Amazing no?!
Well, the downside of all this is, that somewhere in the mix of TS2K,
DynaStore & Quote.com, there are problems. Both Michael and I had what he
called a "strobing" cursor, constantly twitching back and forth between the
cursor and the hourglass. My natural assumption was that it was TS2K.
For clarity sake, Michael only found this behavior on tracking the S&P. NOT
with stocks. Don't ask me why. The overhead is generally considered with
stocks, is it not?!
On top of all that, I was crashing the app under NT with alarming frequency.
Today, not once! As well, and to my great amazement, CPU usage is down
between 0-20% all day! I never expected that! TS2K is an unrepentant CPU
hog! I assumed that to be a fact.
No more.
The freaking program is behaving like a spoiled child that one day awakens
to find he/she is NOT immortal, due to some life or death experience. I can
speak to that, I've had a few, years ago. They can change you. That's how
dramatically different TS2K feels to me today!
Anyway..
Thanks again to all of you who offered some solace in the midst of my 3 week
"crisis"! Though none of you, with one exception, are personal friends that
I'd ever met, I feel like I've made some new friends, and solved a very
vexing problem as well. And for that, AND the list, I am grateful!
As for details of setup, see Michael's earlier post. My setup is similar,
though not quite as perfect.
