Been gone and had over 400 emails on my return so it's taking time to
catch up.
Probably several clarifications are in order:
1) I had a satellite feed with a well-hidden dish but was forced to
remove when it was discovered by a nosy neighbor because it violated
community covenants. Unlike video broadcast, which is exempted from HOA
and zoning covenants by FCC regulations, data broadcast is not. While I
could pull in eSignal via my DirecTV dish, I don't have a high opinion
of eSignal so I haven't bothered. My data feed alternatives are limited
to internet and our phone system is incapable of supporting high speed
traffic ... anything over 28800.
2) I have never used CQG so I have not compared the performance. I did
closely examine the features which were included for $350+- month
compared to $80+- per month and found that for my own trading that there
was no material advantage.
3) I have compared the quote.com data feed extensively to a variety of
data sources (satellite, internet, cable, broker) and have found the
accuracy and timeliness to be first rate when I have a good internet
connection to the QC server farms. I have watched the bad tick
correction function in real-time and it is excellent. The ultimate test
of course has been my ability to obtain electronic fills at the prices I
see on my screen and that has not been a problem. I will also note that
when I was day trading, I used the TimberHill workstation which displays
real-time globex quotes for the e-mini. I was consistently able to
obtain fills at the bid/ask displayed on my workstation and the QC
quotes were consistently in synch with the TH quotes.
4) Someone commented that the QC data feed is S&P Comstock which seems
to have less than a stellar reputation. I will vouch for the poor
quality of the S&P Comstock end of day futures data and the
inconsistencies in resetting the EOD data for receipt of the next day's
trading data. The tick filtering on the intraday feed is proprietary to
QC and it seems to compensate extremely well for whatever quality
problems exist in the S&P Comstock data. The quality of the EOD data is
not an issue for me because I use a reliable EOD data provider to feed
my EOD software, however those requiring an all-in-one solution might
not find this acceptable.
I'm not in any way suggesting that premium services, such as CQG, do not
offer excellent value for other traders. I am simply trying to make the
point that lower cost services are not inherently unsuitable for
successful trading and that the trader need not be out of pocket because
of using lower cost services.
