Russell,

Here's a couple of network "trace route" tools that might be of use to you.

http://www.nessoft.com/index.htm - "Ping Plotter"

http://www.neoworks.com/ - "Neotrace"

Both do the job, I liked Ping Plotter but Neotrace also attempts to overlay
the network route on a map and is interesting too.

Both are available on a try before you buy basis.

Basically want you want to do is determine your average connection speed and
route; do this during different periods of the day and week. If at some
future point you suspect network performance issues, its useful to compare
"what was" with "what is".

You can also get a quick feel current conditions by issuing a "Ping" command
from a DOS command prompt within Windows:

	ping hostname

Such as

	ping herndon-r01.quote.com

The resulting output will tell you what the response time is for packets
travelling across the internet. Excessive times (will depend on your data
provider how sensisitve they are) might be > 150ms for some vendors, others
> 250ms. Certainly if you connect via ADSL or Cable, and are with a bigger
national provider, you should have very good connectivity. As I mentioned in
my previous note, I get 20ms to 30ms to Quote.com servers.

Regarding eSignal vs Dynastore
------------------------------
Ask me again in a week...

In my case I am trying to debug performance issues that relate to the big
and emini spoos only. I can capture 500 stocks easily in GlobalServer, but
the spoos kill performance when I chart them. I'm convinced that its a
TradeStation rather than data collection issue. I'm running a totally clean
install of SP3 plus SP4b. To date Omega has not come up with any answers.

I'm going to do some benchmark performance testing between eSignal and
Dynastore/Quote.com (there is a full function demo version of Dynastore
available). It should be easy to test both since they both use the same
symbol format (Dynastore bases itself on the symbol format of eSignal). If I
come up with anything concrete I will let you know.

Annecdotally, I know a number of users of Dynastore/Quote.com and they are
all having great success.

While I'm at this, I decided to add Ensign to my eSignal account - I've
heard that it is a good performer but there seem to be relatively few users
on-line talking about it. I wonder if that's because they are all busy
trading, as we all should be, instead of debugging Omega performance
issues... ;)

I'm posting this to RealTraders in case its useful to anyone.

Good Trading,
Mike

Mike,
I read with interest your comments on data in Realtraders' list. I have a
couple of questions, if you don't mind.
Where can I get the "Ping Anyalizer" you mentioned?
I am looking for real time data to go thru TS2000i. Esignal has been rec.
by some others, what is your opinion?
I've been hearing the same problems you pointed out w/ the TS/Qfeed combo.
Thanks in advance --- Good Trading!!
