The telecommunications industry is working toward WCDMA, wideband CDMA. This
new standard is being worked on by Ericsson, Qualcom and others, so they will
all share it. The bandwidth with both CDMA and TDMA is too narrow for all of
the data that is possible to send over wireless. WCDMA will help to solve
that. I'm sure it will take awhile to replace existing technologies just as
digital has taken awhile to replace analog. Just don't bet too much on one
of the existing technologies versus the other.
