Rich,
Optimization, through backtesting testing data, is the "fools gold" of
mechanical systems. Give me any set of data and I can present you with a
track record that will make you want to "mortgage the farm". Powerful
computers and great analytical sofware are "gifts from the gods". Over
optimization and sparkling historic track records are temptations "straight
from hell." Great approaches don't need boiler room salesman to "pound" on
potential customers.
