As was already discussed on the Omega list, you should realize that
the grc.com test is only checking a few open ports. It's a fantastic
educational site but it's NOT an absolute "are you safe" security
test.

There are a few other test sites, notably the "secure-me" site at
http://www.dslreports.com/r3/dsl/secureme . There's a free test that
covers more details than the grc.com test, and for a modest fee (only
$10 for a week's usage, or $39? for a year) they will do a much more
exhaustive test. This includes hitting your IP with "pings of
death," various flood tests, etc. But if you score well on the free
test you're probably in good shape.

You definitely do want to be careful. grc.com and dslreports.com
have excellent reputations. I'd trust them.

Realize, though, that ANY website you visit could do the same things,
and could plant a trojan just as easily as these guys could if your
system isn't secure. So it's not like you're letting them do
anything that any schmuck on the web couldn't do. At least these
guys give you an idea of how safe you are from the schmucks or
anybody else.
