Thanks very much for letting others know how to change the settings. I
don't use OE, but did check the settings you mentioned. Question: Do you
mean the 'send' tab instead of the read tab? In my OE, the send options
are there. 

I also checked the 'read' tab, and it is possible to set the font to 
whatever you like for reading mail. BUT, I don't see a place to change 
the size - do you know what size is used for plain text? Are sizes 
different for different fonts? Courier is the 'old fashioned' font that 
works well with ASCII.

Last, but not least, I heard some time ago that Microsoft reverts to their
HTML on a restart of OE, to make it as hard as possible to avoid MS
formatting.  Don't know if that's still true, but perhaps you can tell us.

These are ways of encoding binary information, such as pictures, so they 
can be sent via net mail, which likes to see only ASCII. This is why 
pictures are 'attachments' - they must be encoded to get through.
