Shorting the market

I've been a Real Trader reader for almost a year now and haven't seen much on
"shorting" the market. Of course it's been pretty much an up market for the last
year.  But I feel we are at the top or at least topping now and would like to
prepare for the next wave down.

If I wanted to short the market over a 3-6 month period, and use $10,000
invested, what would be a good way of doing this. What options are available to
me with $10,000 risk capital.   LEAPS?   3 month way out of money Puts?   Is
there a mutual fund designed to "Short" the market?
