Try a Unix shell account for Inet access, and read mail with one of the
mail reader programs. Works well, if you can do without all the 'eye
candy' frills.

I get about 200-500 emails a day, and they are all sorted into about 50
files on the account. Removes almost all the clutter in my inbox so I can
concentrate on the 'real' mail. Another pgm moves almost all the junk
mail and spam to a 'junk' file for quick checks with the delete key. I
like it a lot.

One can always look at or check downloaded files for viruses this way.

One can do this with a minimum of Unix knowledge, too (but realize Unix
whizzes will look down on you and make remarks, sometimes not very nice).
