Bad Harvest
The grains got slammed today with May soybeans (SK9) losing 17 to 484,
wheat (WK9) sliding 14 to 290, corn dropping 6.75 to 225.25, and
soybean
oil (BOK9) plunging 0.80 to 18.91. May soybean meal (SMK9) dropped as
much
as 2.8% before closing at 135.7.
The June dollar index futures (DXM9) had a large-range outside day,
losing
0.44 to 99.92 after appearing on today's 6/100 Low Volatility List. The
June yen (JYM9) made the largest move higher against the dollar (up
.0090
to .8486), while the other low-volatility markets, the D-mark (DMM9)
and
Swiss franc (SFM9), each gained .0025.
June T-bonds (USM9) plummeted one point to 120 6/32 on news of a
stronger-than-expected Chicago Purchasing Managers Association Report,
then recovered as profit taking took the market back to 120 18/32, down
16 ticks on the day.
May natural gas NGK9>NGK9) broke to new 10-, 20-, and 50-day highs
today
before settling 2% higher at 2.020. The other energies continued on
their
high momentum tear, with unleaded gas (HUK9) racing up the most to
close
at .5414.
May sugar (SBK9), which has rallied over 8% off of a multi-year double
bottom, rose for its fifth straight day to 5.910, a 10-day high. May
cotton (CTK9) hit a new 20-day low but managed to pull out a small gain
of
.031 to close at 59.60.
May silver (SIK9) looked weak for a second day, closing near its 50-day
low at 497.0. April gold (GCK9), from the Implosion-5 List, set a new
multi-year low of 280.6 before actually closing slightly higher on the
day
at 281.9.
