You've got it right, in fact I use TA to make my buy/sell decisions on
Vanguard Asia Pacific. The analysis I do is always first and foremost for
use in my own trading and investing. When I have my trading hat on, I trade
currency futures (among others), and last week's action in the currencies
was particularly interesting - was stopped out of a long Yen early last week
and am currently short the Dmark. I put on my investment hat on weekends and
decided to analyze the technicals of both the Yen and the Nikkei to
understand how my positions in VGAP might be affected by the cross-currents.
The talking heads have recently begun touting the positives of Asia, and my
purpose in posting the charts was to demonstrate that the talking heads can
be right about the Asia markets while their customers may never see the
benefits. I haven't started scaling back on VGAP but am keeping a very wary
eye on the yen in particular.
