It is possible to find a 'mentor' to learn from in
trading. It is not as impossible as some may have you
believe. One way or the other, however, you will pay for
your education.
I spent 10 years in university spending big bucks getting a
basic, medical and then specialty degree. It cost me big
time but then the financial returns were to be virtually a
'gimme'. Likewise when I started trading, the tuition for
my education commenced by withstanding some substantial
losses. Not being the quickest learner in this department I
continued having some winners but also my true education via
losses. As has been stated, the 2 or three day seminars by
themselves are not the answer. I've frequented many of
these only to come home on Sunday night to carry on trading
the next day how I had before the seminar began.
I was very fortunate to meet a former floor trader/market
maker on the 'net' who helped me for several months via
email....all for no fee, just because he wanted to help, not
by divulging his specific methods, but by helping me with
trading rules and generalities which in themselves were
invaluable. He NEVER solicited me for a 3 day class that he
offers. I didn't even realize he offered one until I
solicited him regarding the possibility of teaching me.
Even at that he was a bit reluctant to pursue this avenue.
As I've found with other great instructors, the best don't
have to advertise. The difference in this situation is that
after I took his three day class I had continued follow up
via email, and via faxes for any problems, clarifications,
whatever. The phone was/is also available but being a
'visual' person I haven't chosen this route. To this day,
he is available for consultation......and not for a monthly
fee......this is all included in the original 3 day seminar
fee. But the key for true understanding is ...the follow
up. He wants you to totally understand his methods, what
was originally paid for. Are there guarantees of your
success, of course not....just like w/ my medical degree....
I paid for that education, but no one guaranteed me passing
the board exams...that was up to me and not my professors
who taught me the info.
My practice has been sold and I've been trading for more
than two years full time making a comfortable income for my
family and me. There are 'gurus' out there who will teach
and follow up with you. But you have to find them. You
won't find a solicitation from them in your mailbox.
