Hi Monica,
I've been trading equity options with Dreyfus for about two years.
I like the responsiveness and rates, don't care a lot for the user
interface. I think tradepbs (whom Dreyfus bought and renamed as a WEB
presence) had a lot of original ideas which have fallen by the wayside
since the buyout. Certainly, Dreyfus is a much more visible presence
(with all their mutual funds), so reviving the original ideas may be
less important, with their greater financial underpinnings. Not sure I
agree with that as a trader, though...
I've been able to get a broker over the phone immediately whenever
necessary, so the extra rates that entails are more than worth it.
(About double, as I recall). The tech support is also immediately
available... I can imagine that working that desk could be pretty
hectic, but they do pretty well with it (the one or two times I've
needed it).
I actually sort of like it, that Dreyfus never shows up in the polls
as a "great trading site", since that keeps the hordes looking
elsewhere. Most of my WEB accesses (not all) are pretty rapid (under 15
seconds, most around 5 seconds). I wish they would improve the trade
notification process, but about half of the time my orders are for the
market, so the "executions" page has the results almost immediately in
those cases.
You might not love 'em, but you sure won't hate 'em.
