I have just moved to a "rural" location and have limited internet access
(speed). I used to have a cable modem (@home network) at my previous location
however experienced severe "packet" loss between 9am - 10 am and 4pm -5pm. (due
to peak usage times I suspect).
If you have two phone lines and two ISP accounts you can speed up your net
connection with the following device which will allow up to three modems to be
used to increase you bandwidth. It's pretty cool and I will set it up as soon as
my "WebRamp" arrives. Check it out at
http://www.rampnet.com
The other thing to check out is your ISP, if it's a small local ISP they may
only have a T1 connection to the net, you want some one that's on a fibre
network with T3 lines. Finally get a TraceRoute utility and check out how many
"hops" it takes to get to the web site you want, one utility that I like is
TraceRoute, it has a 30 day free trial it will provide a visual map of the route
as well as data loss etc. Check out ...
http://www.visualroute.com
You might be surprised as to the difference between the path your data takes
using different ISP's. In this case the shortest route is the preferred.
Good Luck
