As has been pointed out here many times, different people have different
approaches that work for them. You are right that many people in the
chat rooms lose money. I would happily bet that many who sit, like you,
undistracted by others lose money too.
In my own case, I find chat to be a good way to filter thru large
quantities of information during the day and find a gem or two worth
keeping. Meanwhile the chat rolls by mostly unread. I find the
occasional joke or two brightens an otherwise lonely activity...
