Let's begin a discussion group on the Y2K report -- what the big boys think

Dear Friends,
I just finished reading the report Y2K, A Global Ticking Time Bomb?, and I
agree with what it states.  My background is computer system design,
development, and deployment, and business process reengineering.  In other
words I go to companies, look at what they do and how they do it and show them
how to do it better with computers, then design the computer system and
software to automate this new company.  I have been in many organizations and
looked under the hood and kicked the tires.  And, I agree with what is said in
this report with one variation.  I am much more pessimistic than the speakers
at that meeting were.  I think the problem is much worse than they say.

I propose that we form a discussion group to discuss this issue in detail,
using the Y2K A Global ticking time bomb? as the basis of this discussion.
The discussion will focus on the following:
1.  Which specific technologies will fail on Jan 1, 2000?
2.  Which companies will be hit hardest?
3.  Which sectors will be hit hardest?
4.  What specific moves in options, equities, futures, commodities, etc. can
be taken now in order to benefit from the outcomes which the report (Y2K, a
Global Ticking time bomb) indicates are most likely?

For example, the report says that the electro mechanical switching mechanisms
which the railroads use will fail on Jan. 1 2000 and they have taken the
manual switching mechanisms out of service and placed them in warehouses to be
disposed of.  It seems to me that a no brainer play would be to buy 2001 puts
on all the major railroads.  

Since there are a large number of topics out of this report to discuss, I
think we could have people volunteer to look into one specific area and report
their findings to the discussion group.
