With all the focus on the next few days and the stock
market, I thought I would post the results for our
Political/Seasonality Index for the next two months. The
PSI is the average price change derived from analyzing the
results of 11 different political and seasonal factors on
the daily percent change of the Dow since 1885. A line
graph depicting the result of those changes plus the
percent of up days for each day based on such history is
shown in the attached gif. (Methdology available upon
request.)
Also below I've reproduced the announcement of the program
for the next conference of the Society of Asset Allocators
and Fund Timers, Inc. (SAAFTI), a nonprofit trade
association of investment advisors. More info available at
http://www.saafti.com
Finally, I understand there will be an article on market
timing in Monday's U S News and World Report.

Halloween is the perfect time of year to enjoy the sites,
sounds and boundless activities
that Orlando, Florida, has to offer, while learning about
the latest issues and trends
affecting the investment advisory industry as it prepares
for the 21st Century. Missing out
on discussions of financial market trends, regulatory
compliance, effective marketing
techniques, and Year 2000 issues could have haunting
consequences. Join the Society of
Asset Allocators and Fund Timers, Inc. (SAAFTI) in Orlando
for two information-filled
days to help your advisory business be prepared to succeed
in the new millennium.
At SAAFTI conferences, investment advisors who use active
investment management
strategies have an opportunity to network and discuss
investment approaches and
challenges faced by their investment advisory firms.
Features of the 20th Semi-Annual
Conference in Orlando include:
A look at domestic and international financial
markets in 1999 and key factors
that will influence their directions by
internationally acclaimed economist Dr. Ed
Yardeni. His forecasts for 1997 and 1998 were right
on target and many financial
experts have deemed him the best market strategist in
the U.S.
A panel discussion on applications of the Market
Information Machine offers
insight into historical financial trends and market
valuation relationships on a
short-term basis.
One of America's leading public relations counselors
to independent financial
advisors and money managers conducts a workshop on
building an effective
media relations strategy.
SAAFTI members who have built successful advisory
businesses discuss the
strategies and marketing approaches they used to
succeed.
Regulatory compliance continues to be a hot topic as
state securities
administrators strive to develop universal Registered
Investment Advisor
standards.
Using newsletters to effectively market advisory
services is explored.
The exchange of ideas and solutions between advisors
remains one of the most
highly acclaimed benefits of the SAAFTI conferences.
Two separate roundtable
discussion sessions are scheduled focusing on a
variety of topics from trading
techniques to year 2000 issues.
SAAFTI is a non-profit association of registered
investment advisors who use the risk
management techniques of market timing, dynamic asset
allocation, and tactical asset
allocation to manage assets invested in mutual funds.
Currently, SAAFTI includes more
than 160 member firms, managing an estimated $12 billion
in combined client assets.
Associate members include mutual fund families, trust
companies, software suppliers,
financial publications and others that find the SAAFTI
membership attractive.
