Your edge off the floor is competing in time
frames which the market makers can not. Choosing highly liquid securities
improves the odds for the off floor trader. You need to determine if you want to
trade volitility (breakouts) or trend. If trading trend, you should work with a
minimum of 2 time frames: higher for trend and lower for entry/exit.
Entry/stop/exit need to be based on a sound technical methodology and position
size needs to be based on a combination of risk tolerance and the stop distance
from entry. This is a frequent subject of discussion and you should find a great
deal of interesting information in the archives.

size=4>I'm new to your group. Been day trading about a year.
I've read a dozen books and tried several styles of trading. I seem to be a
good stock and trend picker... getting better at taking advantage of quick
momentum moves. On the other hand, I used to hold my few losers
forever, so I never made much money. I'm now so tired of holding
losers that I jump out of any trade at even a 1/16th of a move against
me. I've gone from careless to downright paranoid!

Here's my question to more seasoned
traders: I need to be in a high volume momentum stock with a tight
spread like DELL, but am I out of my league? Is there too much market
maker and professional competition? Am I better off in a less traded
stock? I use level 2 quotes. Does that level the playing field
enough? Sucess usually requires an edge. What is my edge?
Any thoughts appreciated!

It would appear that Gary (Hawaii) will no longer be a member of the RT
Forum. Gary has asked me to forward a message; however, RT Management
no longer wants his messages posted to the forum. So in order to honor
the RT managements decision I will not forward the post. In Gary's post
he does invite any member who wishes to talk about the markets to
contact him at: charlie@xxxxxxxxxx
All questions or comments should be directed to Gary's private e-mail,
or the RT Management, as I am not aware of the details regarding his
removal. This is the only post I will make regarding this issue.
