GEN: Wide-area pagers/PCS/cells?

Hiya,

I've been looking into different companies that provide "national" pager
coverage, and I've discovered to my surprise that no one seems to do
better than the immediate vicinities surrounding certain major
population centers.  I'm in Portland, OR, and I have yet to find a
company that could cover a complete freeway trip from here to Seattle,
WA based on the coverage maps I've been looking at.

Am I making up the idea that there's somebody out there who has
wide-area pager coverage?  Is this still science fiction in 1998???  Or
have I just not found the right company yet?  Any ideas?
