A couple of years ago there was a product around I believe called
SuperEditor.  I helped Beta test the product.  The product allowed writing
code similar to the power editor in SuperCharts.  Unfortunately the product
got pulled before Beta testing was completed.  I suspect that the folks at
Omega convinced the developer that this product shouldn't be released to
market.

So it can be done - whether its worth your time and effort is another
question.  If you are serious about writing your own trading systems I'd say
just buying TradeStation is the way to go.
