Ericka,
I have used IFS's things for years.
It is set up by screens, and will make daily or intraday files for you.
The intraday screens have one understandable limitation a symbol can
only be entered once.
Thus if you are really into different intraday time periods then you
have to have a separate screen for each time period. I have a screen
for 3 min, 15 min 30 minutes.
It saves your data in many formats. Metatstock, computrac, 5 and 7 field
ascii, ...
The charting package is pretty basic a better solution is, TradeSmart,
by Stratagem1 software. This is a software in spreadsheet format. It
frankly,is very sophisticated and easily programable,Has alarm
functions, testing.. it is limited tho to 2000 bars..
I use it for intraday. IFS and Stratagem1's products interact. One can
get a screen to update at a period you specify.. The limitation is that
each time you request an update,
the program re-reads the file and re-draws the screen.. If you have 8
files that need to be read for a particular screen this can take 20
seconds of read and calculation time.
The trade off is that when I bot the two pieces of software it cost
$600.00, support has never been a problem, Rich the support guy at
Stratagem1 is an experienced programer. He has written things for me
gratis.. They also have solutions posted on thier website of popular
algorhythems{sp?} published in TASC.
Unless you need one minute bars on a tick by tick basis this is a
pretty good solution, that is a cheap research tool. Once you have done
your research, then go to TradeStation.
