RT's & angus,
The first image that pops into my mind when I hear the word discipline is
of a group of soldiers marching in a ridged formation. Now I see from
looking at a dictionary that there is a verb and a noun for the word
discipline. One meaning supplied for the noun is "control gained by
enforcing obedience or order" a synonym is self-control.
It would seem that all this time I have been thinking of the verb meaning 1
: to punish or penalize for the sake of discipline 2 : to train or develop
by instruction and exercise especially in self-control 3 a : to bring (a
group) under control <discipline troops>. To me it seems like the opposite
of self control to mechanically put on a trade because a system gave a
signal. A chicken will learn to play a few notes in response to a light
coming on if it knows that it's going to get food if it does. Is that
discipline and if so which kind?
