WDC should have a real advantage due to its proprietary inclusion
of cache.  This is a memory that holds the most recent very
frequently accessed data from the disk.  Its own drives will 
perform 50% plus faster because the rotational delay and arm 
movement won't be needed for many retrieves.  The are offering
the technology to others via license.

RDRT wrote off their old technology and are going whole-hog
for Magnetic Resistance (MRI) and have an edge, when the sales
resume (inventory has clogged the shelves for awhile).  Several
drive manufacturers are committing to use their MRI heads.
We are talking about read/write heads for disk drives where a
particle of smoke is like a boulder.  Since RDRT can rely on
heads that don't get more accurate or faster by sitting closer
to the disk, we are talking higher disk density as well as faster
through-put.
