....a phenomena known also as positive gamma.  Being long ATM straddles works fine so long as you get a nice move in the future or a move up in the vol.  Let not forget that while we are waiting for this move we are
bleeding premium.

You generally get the maximum gamma the shorter dated the option - but your option will decay faster! ....that damned (can I say *damned* on this forum?) theta again.....
