Re: Debate - To indicate or not to indicate

Bill,

Now you will have me defending your position(bad form in a debate). By the
way I consider this a discussion not a debate nor argument. I have been
heard to say the markets talk to you. However, I am often comparing the
market action to various indicators I use.

>Herein lies our problem, I suggest! I don't think of either of those as
indicators per se. ===Granted.

>For me, an indicator is one of the 122 that I have stored in SC in the
Analysis Techniques file - along with the ShowMe, PaintBar and System
subsections. I am sure all TS and SC users know what I am talking about.
Naturally, this file does not contain the Fibonacci retracement tool,
which,
on my machine is a separate and essential icon - in use immediately when
the
market starts to come off.

Yes, but if you use anything to offset price it comes back to something
that reflects reality rather then the actual price alone. A fine point to
be sure but real never the less. I read price myself. If I have calls and I
see a key reversal down or such I start looking to protect my position.

>But, let's hear about the ones you use. Which ones point the way for you?
Perhaps it is the 123rd one in the locker (good Fib numbers, there!) that
will make all the difference...

I use SC for my trading and I virtually never use the standard indicators
that come with the software. In my study of the "business" I have learned
that you shouldn't use the same guide to trading that everyone else uses.

I have created numerous indicators but I have one that I call the Aston
Quotient. It is similar to momentum only more accurate. In a broad sense in
extensive back testing it is 100% accurate in all time frames and on all
equities. I am not prepared to offer this to the world or anyone. I spent
the last 4 years developing it and I am only now beginning to profit from
it over the last 9 months. I can tell that it puts the probabilities on my
side. I also use regression, volatility, historical volatility and other
guides to confirm my analysis.

>You, on the other hand, play a completely different game. I understand
that. But when we come to words, it is important that we are talking about
the same thing. I am sure we agree on that, even if America and England
is, as the Great Man said, "allies separated by a common language." ===That
and a drink of water.

>Whatever, let me end by saying that I have little faith in the type of
indicators I am talking about - and for the reasons which you must be able
to see. Period. ==I understand your point.

> Best of luck, Brent. I feel for you dreadfully over what we call ME in
England. Have you tried sleeping on a magnetic mattress? There is a nippy
little company in the States call Nikkon, who sell them and they are meant
to be very good for ME suffers. I know a number of people who have
benefitted from magno-therapy - including me and my ankylosing spondylitis!

Thank You for your well wishes and let me return the same. I don't know
anything about ankylosing spondylitis except that in the dictionary it says
something about a stiffening of the spine and inflamation of the same.
Incurable I assume. I have heard of the magnetic mattresses but have not
tried them.

Best Regards

Brent
