There are two points in your post that I'll clarify for you. First and
foremost, you don't get free data when you own your own receiver. You just
don't have to pay lease fees for the receiver rental.
Secondly, you used to be able to purchase some of these units. I know,
because I used to own a Signal Cable receiver. A few years ago you had the
option to buy or lease. I chose to buy.

Question for Everyone.
How is anyone able to sell the Siganl Box, BMI Box or any box for that
matter? I thought they were the property of the data provider and the data
provider will charge you for it if its not returned. Also, if not
returned, they will disable it so it would be worthless to anyone anyway.
I've heard that you can get a specific code if you know someone who is
currently receiving dataand he or she knows the code, but that code (or
password) changes every month and you must be able to update it monthly.
This all sound bogus to me. Obviously, who would not want to buy a
receiver and get free data rather than spending $350 to $400 monthly?
But
can it be done???
How about some authority giving us an answer.
