Re: Mechanical Trading

Dr. Lee,

I am very interested in trading futures using a mechanical approach and
especially am interested in using a point and figure method. I believe
that point and figure is well used for a price breakout method. A
software that is demonstrated on the internet called investigator just
added a point and figure module. I will use it to simulate testing my
ideas and let you know what I come up with.

The software called investigator has been out for eight years but is now
just being offered to the public. It allows one to develop systems
visually with no code writing. It looks like more of a menu selection
method of designing trading systems.

The owners of the software called investigator are willing to implement
additional methods into their software. Recently I emailed them the
details on how to implement a volatility breakout method. The method
would be tunable to measure the avg true range for any number of days
and provide several entry and exit methods to test and customize to suit
the user. I am hoping they do implement this method as I hear it is
used in many of the better mechanical systems such as Bob Burans, R
Breaker, Catscan and others.

John Capello, if you get this message, would you be willing to let us
know if the 16K method you use incorporates volatility breakout? Does it
use channel breakout as does the futures pro?

I understand that there are many who have tradestation and are trying to
design mechanical trading systems out there. I believe this is fertile
ground for our discussion group so we can help each other find out the
simplest stuff that works. I myself don't have tradestation yet. I
expect to get investigator this week. It looks good because it does not
require any programming but is visual oriented using a mouse and fill in
the blank I believe. Nevertheless, I believe I would like to try my
hand at tradestation programming as it can't be that hard if you make an
effort I believe.

Good Trading to all
