I caught Stowell's act on the Telerate circuit a couple of years ago.
Interesting fellow, claims to be self taught. I think he was a high
school teacher.
At the time, he was using a "Leading Momentum Indicator (LMI)," which is a
three period ROC in points, together with a three bar net line to indicate trend.
A potential buy signal was triggered in an uptrend if the LMI values are below
the zero line but are flat or trending higher. He had a couple of
other specific entries as well.
He was using 144 tick bars for position trading bond futures,
staying flat on major economic report days.
