Here is a multiple comport configuration that appears to be functioning.
Fibonacci Trader has a novel data feed configuration option that was not
mentioned in the Nov TASC article. It will run off of the popular feeds
directly or via a DDE link in some cases. In trying to configure it for
the DDE Link to the Omega Server it was possible to establish
communications, but the character format from Omega was for Excel and not
an ASCII format that FT needed. Carlos at FT is working on that and if
successful the following configuration would not be needed. What I ended
up doing was fabricating one of those often mentioned "Y" cables or
"splitters". BMI satellite receiver was hooked to COM 2 initially and the
internet modem(com3)is an internal one so that left me with COM 1 that the
splitter could connect to. I had to reassign the sound blaster IRQ and the
internal modem IRQ to avoid conflicts. So now the BMI box feeds both com 1
and com 2 on a pentium 133 with 32 meg ram. Besides establishing the data
feed the only other thing that needed to be done was to enter some symbols,
select exchanges, time offset, trading hours, establish the layouts. The
30 day trial did not come with a manual, but the Help menu seems to cover
most of the questions. Carlos at FT tech support was very helpful in
getting it running. It is actually rather simple. Making sence of all the
indicators is the next step.
To make the splitter using 9 pin connectors is extremely simple if you are
handy with a soldering iron or needle nose pliers and wire strippers. For
$7 at Radio Shack you can buy all the parts. Since the BMI box does not
use any handshaking only the signal line and signal ground were run to the
second com port. Since the BMI receiver box pinout was not available and
just to make sure the wiring to the Trade Station port was not changed I
went ahead and used all nine wires on that leg of the splitter. The leg to
Fibonacci Trader just had the signal going to pin 2 and the signal ground
to pin 5. FT has a datafeed window so you can see if the data is there and
you wired the cable correctly.
