Wofgang,
+++ see file system comment at end +++
Many, many VMs exist for the Mac and all of them are
pretty good to excellent. All will run TS 2000i Pro
Suite just fine.
The VMs and MacOS (in reality Berkely Unix) is MORE
stable then MS Windows, so your real selection
criteria are:
- speed
- file sharing
- ability to recover Microsoft internal device driver
error that would crash MS Windows (blue screen of
death).
Price and security are all about equally perfect.
Suggestion:
Try
http://www.parallels.com/
Price, about $80, but can be had for students.
Parallels is very very fast.
Some vitalized Windows applications run FASTER on the
Mac (same hardware) then on native PC due to better
memory management.
Pro Suite: looks stable on top of Win 2K Pro with all
the patches or XP Service Pack 2 on top of Parallels.
Don't know anything about Visa.
Vista stability is an open issue.
File system:
Best performance depends on decent I/O.
Load MacOS on one disk and load Parallels on another.
Place your applications on a 3rd disk.
If you have roon for a 4th drive, put your swap file
there.
(You can get two 2.5 in disks into one 3.5 bay with
the usual rubber bands. Fast and quiet.)
