DSL shouldn't drop due to inactivity. I run mine all night and no issues.

FWIW, I had a drop issue, went round and round with SWbell for six months.
Finally one guy understood. He ran a direct, separate line from the outside
phone box to my dsl outlet. No filters anymore, none of that.  That was over
a year ago and it hasn't dropped since. He was supposed to charge a couple
hundred for it, but third service call in a month, I think he felt sorry for
me and did it free.

Good luck...it's a pesky problem, and poorly trained dsl phone techs are no
help.
