It does not surprise me that the business model did not last; after
all it was based on TS2000i which is a not supported software
anymore.
But it still is one of the best in many way's. Even though it is very
old it has features that are still not put into newer software.
This would be the same as creating tools for Windows 98.
Other TS add on companies will face a similar destiny I guess. At the
same time I can not understand that there are still resellers for
TS2000i around the world that are selling TS2000i for over $2500 just
to receive a cut of may be $1000.
It clearly shows there still is a market for Tradestation 2000 allthough
it is probably getting smaller and smaller. (as far as i know, in Europe,
the biggest market for TS2000 is in financial institutions) A market
unfortunatly WLD for instance was never able to fill. It should make you
think :-)
On a personal note I am sorry to hear that all the work put in to the
project did not pay off but I sure hope that whatever new plans Mik
has it will be of greater success. I know how much hard work has to
be put into start ups.
I don't think you clearly understand what happened. (I don't know
about Dynastore and if this was also his problem but i guess he has
had his share of it)
How do you think your business model would do if people would copy your
software and then give the software away for free ? Not only give it away
for free in the harder to find spots, ther underworld of the internet, (wich
ofcourse is happening to almost any software available) but give
it away for free as a "business model". That is what happened in the
TS addon market. Some guy desided that he should make available
for free all those data addons.
It's very hard as a software developer to still stay in business at that
moment.
Even though people know you probably give better support they rather
save the few hundred dollars and get the free stuf.
That's atleast all i know about a competitor of Dynastore. Not many
left actualy..... The free guy also stops his service end of the year.
Apperantly the market is getting smaller and smaller... but there
still is a market and it would have been a lot better if there would
not have been someone giving the stuf away for free.
