All Right Marc, now you are tweaking the OS. It can make a very
significant difference, but it takes time and there is a lot to learn
along the way.
Jimmy
Last week I did a 'dirty' reinstall per Jimmy's instruction manual.
So I ran MSCONFIG, disabled all startup items, did my install- then I got
busy with something, clicked that little box that says: "don't show me" {i'm
running msconfig in selective startup} then, not being 'reminded' by that
little box, I FORGOT to go back in and 'enable' the items that I had
disabled.
All last week it ran like a dream- no GS crashes! of course, Saturday-
after a reboot. I had no icons on my desktop and many things didn't work
(keyboard, etc) because I hadn't enabled them.
Moral of the story:
I found that within the 'startup' items, there was a whole bunch of crap
that was from old deleted programs, something from creative labs that has to
do with registration, all kinds of unnecessary stuff- along with some that
need to run.
To find out what each entry does, just type the entry in Goggle- it will
return info on each entry. If you DON'T need them, disable or remove them,
and you will run much smoother.
Best,
Marc Miller
