The idea is to build common backend on which analytics and trading
systems can run, ala www.kx.com. You could then attach different
front-end for charting, etc.
This "Data Management tool" would make a great open source project.
Probably something simmiliar to a MSSQL database with a table of
some sort of "standard international format" for the data
description like ummmmmm
"exch_Symbol_contracttype_contractmonth_year_month_day_minute_tickno_f
ormat_ price" , and then anyopne who wants to add too it could pay
someone/ or self develop the backend to a data provider and then a
frontend to a charting platform.

you're talking tick data only I think, right?
I think daily data wouldn't even require a database - I would have
thought that ASCII files or the common formats like Metastock would be
appropriate for daily data.
What I was originally looking for was a simple commentary regarding CSI
Data's data management program.
